Since the Presidents illness Mr Tumulty has been recognized as one of the busiest officials in Washington. Mr Polk who has been acting Secty. of State since the resignation of Mr Lansing has announced his intention to retire from the Department as soon as Mr. Colby has become accustomed to his new duties there.
